Shiatsu
A form of Japanese bodywork rooted in Chinese medicinal theory, Shiatsu seeks to adjust the flow of Qi and blood within the meridian system by using joint mobilizations, gentle stretches and skillfully applied pressure. The slow nature of Shiatsu helps to relieve physical tension within the soft tissues (muscles, tendons, fascia, etc.) whilst allowing the nervous system to settle and return to baseline.
The literal meaning of Shiatsu is ‘Finger Pressure’, but the palms, thumbs, fingers, elbows, knees and even feet are used in a session.
Shiatsu was traditionally performed with the receiver fully clothed lying on a futon on the floor. However, this treatment has been adapted to the massage table. Please wear loose comfortable clothing for this session. No denim!
Root & Branch: Assessment & Treatment
Regular style massages feel great but more often than not they fail to treat the underlying cause of pain and restricted movement. In contrast these sessions seek to address both the symptoms and the underlying causes of your specific issue – pain, injury, limited range of motion and so forth.
Movement assessments and palpation are combined with manual muscle testing protocols to determine the principle body structures involved. These affected structures can then be treated with soft tissue therapy, releasing fibrotic and adhered tissue, alleviating pain, restoring easy natural motion.
Self-care instructions are given to cement the changes and aid faster recovery!
Integrative Massage
Sometimes you do just want to relax!
Maybe you over did it hiking, biking, or golfing. Maybe you had the middle seat on the plane and your neck is funky. Or maybe you had a heck of a week and just want to unwind. If that's you then an Integrative Massage is the closest thing we offer to a regular 'spa style' massage.
This session is a holistic approach that combines multiple massage techniques tailored to address your unique needs and preferences. By blending elements from various styles - deep tissue, Swedish, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and Shiatsu-style stretches - we adapt to your body's response, creating a balanced and effective treatment that will leave you relaxed and ready for your next adventure.
